The Bailong Lake National Scenic Area is situated in Guangyuan City in the northern part of the Sichuan Basin, at the junction of Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces. Its geographical coordinates are between 105°20′–105°38′ east longitude and 32°30′–32°45′ north latitude. It was designated as a provincial-level scenic area by the People's Government of Sichuan Province in 1993, and was named a national-level scenic area by the State Council in January 2004. Covering a total area of 416.3 square kilometers, it includes a water surface area of 78.8 square kilometers.

The scenic area boasts picturesque landscapes, a pleasant climate, and numerous historical and cultural sites, offering visitors a fairy-tale-like experience. The lake is surrounded by green mountains, with vast misty waters, winding valleys, emerging islands, towering peaks, lush hills, cascading waterfalls, and swirling clouds, creating serene, elegant, perilous, and spectacular lake-and-mountain scenery. Centered around Yinping Island, it is divided into seven distinctive zones: Shazhou Lake, Liujia Gorge, Longdong Gorge, Luoyang River, Qingcaoping, Jinggu Gorge, and Baozhu Temple. It features ten major attractions such as “Sunrise on Shazhou,” “Emerald Waters and Crimson Autumn,” “Twin Gorges in Flow,” “Exploring Huang Gorge,” “Night Moon over the Plank Walkway,” and “Rainbow over Xigang,” along with over fifty scenic spots, making it an ideal destination for sightseeing, vacationing, conferences, recuperation, and water sports. The area has many caves filled with diverse stalactites, stalagmites, and stone pillars in ever-changing, fantastical shapes that are both awe-inspiring and mesmerizing. There are also numerous historical and cultural relics, including the ancient battlefield site of Baishuiguan from the Three Kingdoms period, the ruins of the Northern Wei Dynasty’s Yinping Kingdom, the “Wooden Ox and Flowing Horse Mountain” which served as Zhuge Liang’s logistics base for his campaign against Qishan, the “Moting Ridge” where the brave Wei general Deng Ai descended wrapped in felt, and the “Yinping Ancient Path” used to launch a surprise attack on Jiangyou and conquer Shu. Being here feels like stepping back into ancient battlefields. The area features continuous mountain ranges and lush vegetation, home to a large number of rare plants and animals. In recent years, a 100,000-mu olive plantation has been established in the Bailong Lake Scenic Area, not only making it truly the “Home of Chinese Olives” but also further enhancing the ecological environment and adding a beautiful new landscape to the region.

The Bailong Lake Scenic Area enjoys excellent transportation links and a highly advantageous location. Centered around Bailong Lake, it connects famous attractions such as the Jianmen Peaks, Cuiping Corridor, Zhaohua Ancient Town, Huangze Temple, Thousand-Buddha Cliff, Tangjiahe, Gucheng Mountain, Qilixia, and Tianzhao Mountain, forming a uniquely distinctive northern Sichuan tourism cluster. It also serves as the eastern gateway to Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong Scenic Areas, and a natural link to western Sichuan scenic spots centered around Xi’an. The scenic area is 19 kilometers from downtown Guangyuan, 10 kilometers from the Zhaohua exit of G5 Highway and Zhaohua Station of the Baoji-Chengdu Railway, and 11 kilometers from Guangyuan Airport. National Highway 212 runs through the area. The newly completed G75 Expressway has two exits within the scenic area: Yao Du and Muyu. The Pingyuan Station of the Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway in Yao Du Town is just 5 kilometers away from the scenic area.
