Chuan Dong An

Chuan Dong An is located at the foot of a mountain in Xiangshui Village, Zengjia Town, about 42 kilometers east of Chaotian District, Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province. It got its name from the former Chuanzhu Temple situated on the main peak. Belonging to the Cretaceous stratum, Chuan Dong An consists of two-tiered sinkholes, with a major axis of approximately 650 meters, a medium axis of around 400 meters, a minor axis of about 50 meters, a depth of roughly 670 meters, and an estimated volume of about 222 million cubic meters.

Known as the "World's Largest Sinkhole," Chuan Dong An features 11 large and small sinkholes within its structure. This sinkhole cluster encompasses nearly all types of sinkholes, earning it the title of a "Sinkhole Museum." Among them, the largest sinkhole accounts for over 90% of the entire group. The surrounding rocks, shaped sharply like they were cleaved by axes, form a sheer cave that resembles a gaping mouth open to the sky. Due to the sinkhole’s sheltered environment, cold air rarely penetrates, resulting in a significant temperature difference between the inside and outside. In early spring, while snow still blankets the mountains, wildflowers have already begun to bloom quietly within the sinkhole.

Chuan Dong An enjoys abundant rainfall, year-round misty clouds, and the constant sound of flowing water. From a distance, it looks like a massive white silk ribbon hanging from the heavens, but up close, the chilly air and swirling mist enveloping the valley create a truly spectacular sight. The air in the scenic area is fresh and pristine.
