With blue skies, white clouds, pristine sandy shores, and azure coastlines, the scenery before your eyes makes you feel detached from worldly distractions, as if living a secluded life. This is Anmok Beach in Gangwon Province, South Korea. Along the shoreline, there’s a row of uniquely styled cafes, almost every one of which boasts breathtaking ocean views.

A seaside cafe street is quite popular in South Korea. Areas with beautiful seascapes naturally form such clusters. Many Koreans love to visit the seaside during holidays to relax, take walks, and then have dates in cafes while enjoying the ocean views—even in winter.

Located in Anmok Beach, Gangneung City, Gangwon Province, such a cafe street has taken shape, offering a full row of cafes for you to choose from. We walked into BOSSA NOVA COFFEE ROASTERS, a minimalist building with exposed concrete-like textures and large floor-to-ceiling windows.

▲ At BOSSA NOVA COFFEE ROASTERS, you can enjoy perfect ocean views from every floor. Our visit was in December, so the shop also had plenty of Christmas decorations.

The roughly five-story building has the lobby on the first floor, the ordering counter on the second, indoor seating on the third, a semi-indoor and semi-outdoor space on the fourth, and an open-air terrace on the rooftop. After taking a stroll, we settled on the outdoor lounge area on the fourth floor and the grassy open-air area on the rooftop, finding the views from both spots the most stunning. We grabbed some cake and a latte, sat down, struck a few poses, and got ready to snap away—when a Korean girl who walked by probably found the table setting too pretty and couldn’t help but take a few photos herself. It seems that taking photos and checking in is a universal joy for modern people, regardless of nationality.

▲ The fifth-floor open-air area is covered with artificial turf, and sitting here overlooking the sea is also quite nice.
The scenery before your eyes is so beautiful that desserts and coffee take a back seat. After warming up in the cafe, head out to the beach for a stroll and some photos. Along the sandy shore, there’s a wooden rocking chair at regular intervals. Even though it wasn’t a holiday when we visited, there were still quite a few Koreans dating here, ranging in age from 20 to 60. Couples sat chatting on the rocking chairs, and even though the day’s temperature was only in the single digits, it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits—people still had a great time.
