Baodi Tianying Chili
Baodi Tianying Chili is a geographical indication certification trademark.
Baodi Tianying Chili is a geographical indication agricultural product.
Tianying Chili, also known as facing-heaven chili, is a variety introduced in Baodi District primarily for export trade. It is known for its extremely high spiciness and enjoys a strong reputation both domestically and internationally, making it one of the major foreign exchange-earning export products in the Tianjin area.
The Tianying Chili adapts well to various conditions and is not demanding on soil types, capable of growing in diverse soils. Its plant is upright with a compact structure, suitable for dense planting. In the Tianjin area, it is commonly cultivated using seedling methods. Typically, seedlings are raised in protected environments during early to mid-March, and transplanted in early to mid-May, with a row spacing of 40–50 cm. About 8,000–10,000 plants are grown per mu, and harvesting takes place around early October. The average yield of dried chilies is about 200–250 kg per mu.
Using plastic mulching and intercropping or relay cropping with tall crops such as corn and sesame can effectively prevent "the three drops" (flower drop, fruit drop, and leaf drop), suppress pest and disease occurrence, and significantly improve yield and quality.
The fruit of the Tianying Chili contains abundant protein, carbohydrates, fats, and various vitamins, especially capsaicin, which aids digestion, stimulates appetite, enhances health, and helps resist diseases. It is an excellent condiment in daily diets.
Tianying Chili is mainly exported and sold domestically as dried fruit. The chili fruits can also be processed into flakes or powder for sale. Fresh chili fruits or leaves can be used for other purposes, with a base area of 1,000 mu currently established. Currently, the region produces around 4.5 million kg of Tianying Chili annually, generating annual sales of 3 million yuan and foreign exchange earnings of approximately 12 million yuan.
