Guangyuan Da'an Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

Da'an Temple (Chaotian District)

Da'an Temple is located in Xia'an Township, Chaotian District, Guangyuan City, situated in the remote Yunwu Mountain. As a thousand-year-old ancient temple, it holds significant cultural and artistic value and was designated as a provincial-level key cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province in 2007. The temple was originally built in the late Eastern Han Dynasty and was initially named "Yuantong Guan," established by the warlord and Celestial Master of the Five Pecks of Rice sect, Zhang Lu, who dominated Hanzhong. In the early Tang Dynasty, it was renovated by Yu Chijingde and renamed "Yuantong Temple." During the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty, the abbot of Yuantong Temple led his disciples to resist the army of Zhang Xianzhong, thereby protecting the temple and ensuring peace and tranquility in the surrounding areas. As a result, it was renamed "Da'an Temple." The outer perimeter of the temple has been restored and refurbished, regaining its former grandeur, and now presents a serene and solemn appearance amidst lush trees and green forests. Inside the temple, there is a stone stele from the Republican era that records donations for the temple’s reconstruction. Additionally, there is an iron tablet said to weigh a thousand jin (approximately 500 kg), considered the temple’s treasured relic. Cast during the Ming Dynasty, the iron tablet bears an inscription titled “Record of the Establishment of Guanyin Temple,” documenting the renovation of Yuantong Temple. Though covered in rust, the tablet remains well-preserved, and the inscriptions are still clearly visible.

Xia'an Township: I. Historical Evolution

Xia'an Township has a long history, originating in the Qing Dynasty. It was originally part of Yudong Fort in Shensha Township. During the Republican era, it belonged to Shahe Township. In 1953, it was established by incorporating Shiban and Xia'an villages from the former Mingyue Township, as well as Baijia Village from Zengjia Township and Zhangjia Village from Pingxi Township, forming the Xia'an Township Commune (headquartered inside Da'an Temple). In 1978, it was relocated to Shipihe (now Group 7 of Wenchang Village). In 1992, Xia'an Township was abolished, and its jurisdiction was merged into Chaotian Town. In November 1995, it was separated from Chaotian Town, and the Xia'an Township People's Government was re-established.
