Taihang Dragon Cave

Taihang Dragon Cave is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Located in Shiquan Village in the eastern mountainous area of Wuxiang, it is 50 kilometers from the county town.

The cave was formed during the orogenic movement 570 million years ago. This area features overlapping peaks and lush forests and grasslands. Although situated in the north, it is one of the few multi-layered caves that possesses the typical characteristics of southern karst caves. Even within a single layer, the cave offers a complete range of scenic views, boasting significant aesthetic and research value, ranking first in North China. Currently, four layers have been discovered, with three having been explored, spanning a total length of 314 meters. The first and second layers contain three large halls, with the cave stretching about 90 meters in length and around 30 meters in height; the third layer is 224 meters long, divided into two halls and two passages, with hall heights of 25–30 meters and passage heights of 3–4.5 meters. The cave’s main chambers are spacious, with pleasant temperatures and fresh air. Various uniquely shaped calcified formations adorn the walls, shimmering with vibrant colors. In the first layer, the large calcium carbonate crystal stalagmites have diameters of about 2.5 meters, which is rare in China. The green stone flower slope presents a peculiar sight, while the "Princess Watching the Waterfall" in Hall 2 features an exquisite formation. The second layer resembles a crystal palace, fascinating visitors. The ceiling is adorned with stalactite chandeliers, while the center showcases the spectacular and diversely shaped "Mushroom Tower Forest." The "Gathering of Heroes" forms a fairyland on the cave wall, composed of stalagmites, stalactites, and stalagmite columns. In the third layer, the "Golden Lion Guarding the Cave" stands majestically with a lifelike expression. The "Welcoming Flower Towers" stand symmetrically at the entrance of Cave 2, greeting visitors. The "Stalagmite Candles" resemble burning yellow candles, illuminating the entire dragon cave, with their surfaces marked by wax-like drip trails. The "Hundred Flowers Blooming" is a magnificent formation made up of dense clusters of stalactites. The "Calcified Flower Meadow" is a stunning sight on the floor of Hall 2, where large patches of yellow stone flowers are interspersed with yellowish-white calcified deposits, creating a harmonious color scheme and a unique landscape. There are also numerous other formations such as stone towers, stone curtains, stone carvings, stone draperies, soda straws, and massive stalactite waterfalls.
