Does Taitung have its own European rainbow village? Giant painted walls paired with European-style wooden cottages make for an incredibly vibrant scene.

Imagine rainbows climbing up high walls and window sills, as if in a fairy tale where elves could appear at any moment. Have you ever dreamed of living in a colorful European rainbow village? Now you can see one in Taitung, where rainbow-colored houses complement the blue coastal scenery, making it feel even more beautiful than Europe.

Since 2010, the well-known paint brand Dulux has launched the “Let’s Color” urban revitalization project in Taiwan, aiming to create more distinctive spaces through the use of color. Dawu in Taitung was one of the communities selected for the project, with 20 to 30 residential buildings participating, bringing vibrancy to an ordinary neighborhood.

Before leaving Taitung City and entering the Southlink Highway, Dawu is a must-pass location. It’s hard not to be drawn to the rows of brightly colored houses here. In addition, there’s a bright yellow pedestrian bridge and green pavilions. Among them, the most eye-catching radial colorful house is actually a bakery that’s been around for over 30 years.

Another highlight on Dawu Street is a row of European-style wooden cottages. These cottages were actually built as permanent homes for residents of the Fushan Tribe, who were relocated due to Typhoon Morakot. Additionally, wandering through the alleys, you’ll find walls painted in vibrant shades of purple, green, pink, and more.
