Limited-time installation crafted from 5,000 bamboo poles — Kaohsiung gets its own snowy "Song of the Forest"

The 2014 Kaohsiung gas explosion not only caused multiple casualties but also nearly destroyed all the children's facilities in Qianzhen 31st Phase Park. The highlight of the 2015 "Together Art Festival" held on the anniversary of the explosion, the installation "Gather," is also set to come to an end this October.

The "Together Art Festival," initiated in 2015 by Legislator Chao Tien-lin, invited bamboo weaver Wang Wen-chih to create the land art installation "Gather" with the theme of "gathering" and using "bamboo and oyster shells" as materials, aiming to unite the public’s blessings for the disaster victims.

Taking two and a half months to create and using approximately 5,000 bamboo poles and 250,000 oyster shells, the hand-woven installation combines the interplay of light and shadow to connect the concepts of land and sea, while also weaving together the deep emotions between people, helping everyone overcome the aftermath of the explosion together.

As the park is adopted and managed by Legislator Chao Tien-lin’s service office for the exhibition,the initial planned exhibition period was until this October, but due to the great public acclaim for the land art installation, the service office also stated that it has not yet been decided whether to extend the display, and an announcement will be made online at that time,striving to fulfill the expectations of the citizens.
