Jiangkou Water Town Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area.

Forty-two scenic areas including the “Jiangkou Water Town Water Conservancy Scenic Area in Pingchang County” have been designated as “National Water Conservancy Scenic Areas,” officially making “Jiangkou Water Town” the first national-level water conservancy scenic area in Bazhong City. The scenic area has been certified by the Ministry of Water Resources of China as the “Jiangkou Water Town Water Conservancy Scenic Area.” It is planned according to the standards of a National AAAA-level tourist attraction. The infrastructure at the project construction site is well-developed, making it suitable for project establishment.

Jiangkou Water Town has earned its place among the national water conservancy scenic areas through its rich cultural landscapes and abundant water resources. The area boasts a wealth of natural and cultural attractions. The Sima Wetland, listed by the state as an ecological and wetland nature reserve, reflects verdant mountains in the clear waters and embraces the blue sky with emerald lakes, where fish and birds play beneath the surface — a breathtaking sight. Together with the hundred-mile forest corridor, it creates the stunning “Jiangkou Water Town Sima Ecological Gallery,” reminiscent of a divine painting. Two large artificial lakes formed by the reservoirs of Shuangtan and Fengtan Hydropower Stations along the Tongjiang and Ba rivers stretch for dozens of kilometers. Nestled between the undulating mountains and embraced by the waters, the farmland and ancient town residences along both banks appear even more serene, open, and charming against this picturesque backdrop. Scenic spots such as the Jiangyang Ten Scenes, the Shuangtan Zhu Xianling Temple, “White Buddha Cave” in Niujiaokeng, ancient stone-carved cattle, the Niujiaotan Waterfall, and traditional folk events like dragon boat racing all reflect the deep hydro-cultural heritage and rich cultural legacy of Pingchang’s water town.

Water is the soul of Pingchang. The Tongjiang and Ba rivers run through the entire territory, covering a water area of 153.18 square kilometers. Blessed with unparalleled water resource advantages, the county features a dazzling array of engineering, ecological, hydrological, and cultural landscapes, earning it the reputation of the “Water Town of Pingchang.” Leveraging a development strategy centered on the “One Core and Three Belts” (with Wangjiazui as the core, and the Shuangtan Reservoir area, Sima attractions, and Baiyi Ancient Town as the three belts), Pingchang County is actively creating a “National Water Conservancy Scenic Area” integrating ecological sightseeing, tourism, leisure, entertainment, and education. A rural tourism waterway loop has been established, starting from Hejiaba in Lingshan Township, passing through Nitanzi in Shitan Township, and ending at the dam of Shuangqiao Reservoir in Yuntai Town — stretching a total of 32 kilometers.
