The Former Residence of Wu Zheng

The former residence of Wu Zheng is located at the Baiyi'an Community Committee in Baiyi Town, facing southeast and situated to the northwest. It is a multi-tiered, three-courtyard quadrangle compound, covering a total length of 62.82 meters and a width of 37.57 meters, with an area of 2,360.1 square meters. The main gate is 4.95 meters high and 4 meters wide, featuring stone square pillars with an arched top. The eight-character walls and surrounding walls are all built with thin clay bricks laid in a cross pattern, with the tops of the walls covered by blue tubular tiles and bases adorned with animal-head patterns. The gate is 2.45 meters high and 1.8 meters wide. The surrounding wall is 37.57 meters wide, 62.82 meters long, and 4 meters high. The first courtyard is 37.57 meters wide and 16.02 meters deep. The second and third courtyards have surrounding walls that are 46.6 meters long and 37.57 meters wide, and 9 meters high. The building in the second courtyard has been destroyed, leaving only the main building and left wing room in the third courtyard. The main building is seven bays wide (35.32 meters) and one bay deep (9.8 meters), built with a post-and-lintel wooden structure, topped with blue tiles and gabled roofs, standing 7.3 meters in total height and 4.4 meters at the eaves, with a 2-meter-wide corridor and a 0.5-meter-high platform base. The left wing room is three bays wide (13.32 meters) and one bay deep (6.6 meters), standing 6.2 meters in total height and 4.1 meters at the eaves, with a 1.4-meter-wide corridor. The bluestone-paved courtyard is 19.7 meters long and 14.4 meters wide, with a 0.2-meter-high platform base. Both the main building and the wing rooms feature bracket arms on their corridor pillars, and the main building’s corridor pillars and intercolumnar pillars have bracket arms extending over the eaves. This architectural complex is grand in scale. Although the main buildings have been damaged, the site remains intact, along with the surrounding walls, making it a rare physical resource for the study of ancient architecture.
