Tomb of Zhang An

The Tomb of Zhang An is a cultural relic protection unit of Bazhong City.

The Tomb of Zhang An is located in Laojun Village, Yankou Township, oriented from northwest to southeast. It is a joint burial tomb for Zhang An and his wives, Madame Zhang and Madame He, distributed across a raised platform that is 10.1 meters wide and 24.1 meters deep. The earthen mound is elliptical, measuring 9.7 meters in length, 6 meters in width, and 5.1 meters in height. The five-tiered, archway-style memorial stele stands 5.6 meters tall and 8.3 meters wide, featuring five posts and four bays. The central bay has a niche in which a stele is erected, inscribed with the names of the tomb owners. The left and right sides of the niche door are adorned with floral patterns. The sides of the stele connect with the surrounding burial wall, which is 1.9 meters high and 8.8 meters long. Four meters and two ahead of the stele, two square-base, round-head accompanying steles are arranged in parallel. Both steles share the same specifications: the base is 0.6 meters high, 0.55 meters long, and 1.2 meters wide; the body of the stele is 1.1 meters wide, 0.75 meters thick, and has an overall height of 3.4 meters. One point six meters in front of the right stele stands a three-tiered square-base character storage tower, which is 1.6 meters tall with a base side length of 0.9 meters. Eight point eight meters along the central axis of the stele stands a three-tiered archway-style memorial gate, which is 5.1 meters tall and 3.9 meters wide, featuring four posts and three bays. The pillars of the gate are fronted with drum-shaped pedestals. The left and right sides of the gate connect with the burial wall, and the front wall features two decorative flower windows. Two meters and seven ahead of the gate stand two flagpoles, now preserved only at their bases. Each base is one meter high and has four tiers: the first tier is square with a 1.3-meter side; the second tier is also square; the third tier is octagonal; and the fourth tier is circular. The memorial stele and the gate are engraved with patterns of figures, animals, and flowers. This tomb is of considerable scale and holds significant value for cultural relic research.
