Pingchang Chastity and Filial Piety Memorial Archway

The Chastity and Filial Piety Memorial Archway is located at the Community Committee of Baiyi’an, Baiyi Town, facing south. It features a mixed brick-and-stone structure with a stone framework and fired brick infill. There are five inscribed plaques on both the front and back sides, with four pillars and three bays. The top part has been damaged. The archway stands 6.8 meters high and is 9.2 meters wide. The four pillars are reinforced with tie beams at the front and back. The central bay serves as a passageway, measuring 3 meters in height and 3.4 meters in width (measured center-to-center of the pillars), with a clear span of 2.9 meters and side bays each 1.9 meters wide. The central niches on both the front and back are inscribed with the characters “Chastity and Filial Piety,” while the lower niches feature an inscription by Qing Dynasty Grand Secretary Wei Ren. The text on the archway has severely weathered and is difficult to discern. Since the inscription was authored by a person from the Qing Dynasty, the archway is dated to the “Qing Dynasty.” The pillars of the left and right side bays bear couplets inscribed by Li Zongyi, Governor-General of the Two Jiangs. The front and back of the archway are adorned with multiple panels depicting figures, animals, flowers, and trees. This memorial archway holds historical and artistic research value.
