Zhuanbi Village

Zhuanbi Village is located in the steep mountains 45 kilometers east of Wuxiang County, Shanxi Province. With its rugged terrain, defensible position, and concealment advantages, it was chosen as the headquarters of the Eighth Route Army. As the command center and strategic hub on the front lines of the North China Anti-Japanese War, it bore witness to the glorious history of unity between the military and civilians in striking back against the Japanese invaders across war-torn North China, and its precious red heritage has made the village widely renowned.

In 1940, the world-shocking Hundred Regiments Offensive, directed by leaders such as Peng Dehuai and Zuo Quan, took place here. Hundreds of thousands of Eighth Route Army soldiers fought across the plains of North China, while Zhuanbi Village became a hub of radio communications. Along the 2,500-kilometer sabotage line, strongholds were raided, passes seized, transport lines destroyed, and bridges blown up to combat foreign aggression, leading to the establishment of an anti-Japanese base that spanned the entire region of North China. Commander-in-Chief Zhu De, along with leaders of the Eighth Route Army and the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee such as Peng Dehuai, Zuo Quan, and Liu Bocheng, held numerous important meetings in this courtyard, formulating major policies and strategies. The village also hosted visits from numerous anti-Japanese democrats, Kuomintang anti-Japanese generals, and international friends, making Zhuanbi Village an important window for the Eighth Route Army’s external propaganda and international exchanges.
