Duanqu Park

Duanqu Park was built in 1996 as a unique geological park located east of Nanjiang County. Duanqu is not an actual canal, but rather a result of local tectonic movements during the Jurassic period, where the mountain layers were torn and twisted. It is divided into front, middle, and rear sections, stretching over ten Chinese miles in total. The gullies of the valley are packed with massive boulders and peculiar rocks, crisscrossed with deep earth crevices and ravines, densely dotted with caves, entwined with vines, and overgrown with shrubs.

Duanqu boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage. The Taixu Cave within the valley was once a habitat for prehistoric humans. Stone knives, stone axes, femur fossils, pottery, and clear traces of primitive stone tool grinding have been discovered here. In May 1933, the massive rock where wounded Red Army soldiers recuperated before the counter-“Three-Way Offensive” has now become two spacious and bright natural chambers. Prior to liberation, the “Dragon Spring Villa” owned by the Liu family’s gentry featured a widely renowned couplet reading, “A secluded mountain forest close at hand lets me find peace; worldly fame and fortune leave others in a flurry.” Hundreds of acres of pine woods roar like thunder, with the fragrance of pine needles filling the air, creating a fairy-tale-like setting. Wild rabbits, squirrels, and other wildlife roam about.
