Ancient Liuli Pass Cliff Carvings

The ancient Liuli Temple in Nanjiang County is located beside an old road near the suburbs of Nanjiang County, Sichuan Province. This place lies against mountains and faces a river, and was historically known as Liuli Pass. The Liuli Temple is very small. The ancient Liuli Pass cliff carvings are recorded as follows.

First, the Tang Dynasty Stele: "Yangsheng Pool"

Inscribed on the stone wall above the pool by Emperor Xizong of Tang when he entered Shu

Second, the Song Dynasty Stele: "On February 15th of the third year of the Shaoxing era, the Jurchen invaders attacked Xingyuan Prefecture"

Third, the Song Dynasty Stele: "When the river by the ancient road swells and causes flooding at Jiangxia, passage becomes inconvenient. It was ordered that Taoist He Yongde carve into the rock and move stones to clear a path, so as to leave a timeless mark for generations to come."

In the third year of the Jiayi era of the Great Song Dynasty (Guihai year), led by Chief Hou Nanji and local devotees, with stone mason Zhao Zhongshun recording.

Fourth, the Qing Dynasty Stele: "Ancient Liuli Pass"

Erected on a day in early autumn of the Yiyu year during the Guangxu reign, inscribed by Sun Qingshi, a Jinshi degree holder and Magistrate of Nanjiang County.

Constructed as a memorial by Criminal Official Zhang Bingjie. Stone work by Zheng Deneng.

Sixth, Qing Dynasty Stele

"Official notice from Magistrate Zhang: To all households and residents by the river, take note. It is hereby ordered that from Guanba Two-River Mouth upstream to Yuantan Market downstream, no structures such as sheds or ponds shall be erected along the riverbanks before the Awakening of Insects and after the Summer Solstice. Activities such as setting up arrow fences, nets, poisoning the river, or fraudulent deception under the guise of catching crows are strictly forbidden. Should anyone dare to disobey, they may be reported by name for investigation and punishment according to the law. This is a solemn notice. By order, for your information."
