Nánjiāng Bājiǎozhài

Bājiǎozhài is located on the ridge between Cáojiā Hé in Zhàipō Township and Wénjiā Liáng in Shàngliǎng Township as well as Hòubàzi in the northern part of Nánjiāng. The terrain here is steep and precipitous. Legend has it that during the “Eight Kings’ Campaign to Suppress Sichuan,” the “Eight Kings” once built a stronghold and stationed there for a long time. Their troops hung their flags atop a hill below the stronghold, which came to be known as Xuánqí Zhài (Hanging Flag Fort). Because the area is surrounded by eight hills, the troops of the “Eight Kings” referred to this place as Bājiǎozhài (Eight-Cornered Stronghold).
