Nanzhai Dazhai Relics Site

The Nanzhai Dazhai Relics Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Dazhai relics site is located in Longdong Village  Community, stretching 500 meters in length, 9 meters in height at its lowest part, and reaching up to 12 meters at its highest point. It is entirely built with square stone blocks weighing 3–4 tons each, with exquisitely crafted masonry. The top features battlements resembling those of a city wall. The back of the stronghold is surrounded by cliffs on three sides, and there is only one gate at the front. The top area spans 30 mu, and includes four ponds that can provide drinking water for about 1,000 people. In the early years after liberation, the area was covered with ancient cypresses, and there were temples in the early years of the Republic. Standing on the back of the stronghold and looking into the distance, the landscapes of Zhijian and Wangcang could be seen in full view. About 10 meters to the right and below the back of the stronghold, there is a man-made cave with an area of 400 square meters, which could accommodate 1,000 people during wartime. There is also a spring inside the cave that could supply drinking water for 50 people throughout the year. Access between the upper and lower parts of the cave could only be made by crawling along the cliffs. On the cliff face to the left and below the back of the stronghold, there are two naturally formed caves connected in the middle, locally known as Ox Nose Cave. In the winter of 1932, the Fourth Red Army, led by Zhang Guotao and Xu Xiangqian, established the Shannxi-Gansu Revolutionary Base in northern Sichuan, and the Nationalist army carried out fierce offensives against the Red Fourth Army. After personally inspecting the area, Commander-in-Chief Xu Xiangqian set up resistance positions against enemy attacks on Dazhai. Here, the Red Fourth Army utilized the strategic high position of the fortress to fight fiercely with the enemy for over ten months, eventually achieving victory and consolidating the Soviet regime. The stronghold was destroyed during the Great Leap Forward period. Today, orchards have been planted on the site, and during the blooming season, the site attracts a large number of visitors, making it a popular tourism destination in Houjia.
