Temple of the Heavenly God. The Temple of the Heavenly God is located in the center of Xiaba Village. It was built in ancient times by the ancestors to commemorate the divine power of heaven that created Xiayingba Village. The temple enshrines deities such as the Jade Emperor and the Primordial Celestial Worthy, and enjoys great popularity among worshippers. British and French missionaries once built a church behind the temple, at the site now known as the Wang Family Courtyard. The Temple of the Heavenly God is managed by temple monks and also features a water pond for fire prevention. The houses of the foreign missionaries had rectangular pools, with the lower half of the courtyard walls made of bluestone slabs and the upper half coated with foreign lime plaster, presenting a magnificent sight. Each gate bore a couplet. At that time, the author used to walk the same way to middle school with Wang Chengxu from the Wang family and saw a couplet carved on one of the gateposts that read: “Cultivate righteousness to repay heaven and earth, and become a perfect person to honor our ancestors.”
