Five Maidens Platform: Located in the central part of the fifth community of Meiling, this site currently features an ancient green oak tree with a trunk diameter of over one meter. Beneath the tree is a cave with several large stone slabs. Legend has it that in ancient times, five demon dogs transformed into five fairy maidens who often did needlework here. If a girl wanted to have embroidered shoes made, she could bring her needle, thread, and cloth, burn some incense, and place them on the stone slab. After two days, she would return to find the shoes completed and left in the same spot—but the fairies were never seen. One day, a young man, overcome by improper thoughts, tried to spy on them. Sure enough, he saw several beautiful women sitting together. He boldly rushed forward and grabbed one of the maidens, but she struggled free and suddenly dove into the cave. The cave entrance then collapsed, and from that day on, the fairies were never seen again. Later, people renamed Five Maidens Platform as “Five Maidens Mountain.”
