Established in 1951 as Zhugong Township, it was reorganized as a commune in 1958, renamed Dongfeng Commune in 1966, and reinstated as Zhugong Township in 1984. Located in the southwestern part of the county, it is 81 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 30.5 square kilometers, it has a population of 12,000. The Zhengzhi-Bazhong Highway passes through the township. It administers nine village committees—Zhugong, Guanjiadi, Liujia Bang, Yangling, Xieyanbian, Tongbianling, Jinjiya, Baiping, and Fangshan—as well as the Zhugong Neighborhood Committee.
