Houlong Mountain Houlong Mountain is a long, narrow island that juts into the heart of Lugu Lake, stretching an impressive 4 kilometers in length. In Mosuo mythology, Houlong is the male mountain god, who shares an undying love with the goddess Gemu. The two transformed into mountain and island, gazing at each other across the lake during the day and reuniting for romantic “walking marriages” at night. A scenic hike along the ancient circumambulation path atop Houlong Mountain offers breathtaking views: to the left lies the "Grass Sea," and to the right, the "Clear Sea." The landscape is rich and picturesque, filled with wonder. As the saying goes, “Ascend the mountain to view the sea, descend to the sea to see the mountain”—Houlong Mountain uniquely combines both experiences.
