Bo’ao Island

Bo’ao Island (Princess Island), corresponding to Bo’ao Peninsula, is where the last Tusi of Zuosuo built an extravagant summer palace to house Xiao Shuming, a Han Chinese lady from Ya’an. At just 16 years old, Xiao spent her entire youth on this island. Today, the landscape remains unchanged, but everything else is different—wandering among the ruins on the island leaves one with much to ponder.
