Qianjiang Urban Grand Canyon — spanning seven geological eras, with a vertical drop of 500 meters and stretching approximately 8 kilometers in length, features a massive 123-meter cliffside Guanyin statue and a suspended glass walkway. The scenic area is located within Qianjiang’s urban district, earning the city the reputation of “the Luxembourg of the East, the canyon city of Qianjiang.”

The urban canyon lies between Youyang Mountain and Chaqi Mountain, at the core of Qianjiang’s main urban area and the two new urban zones of Zhengyang and Zhoubai. This typical karst landscape spans seven geological eras, extends over 10 kilometers, and features a 500-meter vertical drop. It combines mountains, caves, gorges, waterfalls, wetlands, forests, geological wonders, Buddhist culture, and Tujia ethnic customs. With “the city atop the canyon and the canyon at the city’s heart,” it presents a rare “urban canyon gorge” landscape in the world.

The scenic area covers a planned area of 7.4 square kilometers, with a total construction area of 150,000 square meters, including 86,000 square meters for roads and squares, 42,000 square meters for buildings, and 25,000 square meters for landscapes and recreational facilities. Highlights include a massive cliff-carved Buddha statue and the Wenfeng Pagoda perched atop a solitary peak. Local legends such as “The Filial Son Meets an Immortal” and “The Male and Female Mountains” add to its cultural charm. “Sunset over Youyang” is one of the ancient twelve scenic spots of Qianjiang.
