Luhuitou Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Luhuitou Park is located on Luhuitou Peninsula in the southeastern part of Sanya city proper. Surrounded by the sea on three sides and adjacent to downtown Sanya on the other, it is themed around “love culture” and is known as the “Love Mountain of the South China Sea.”

It is the prime spot for enjoying sea views and watching the sunrise and sunset. From the mountaintop, you can take in the full panorama of the city and Xiaodonghai. In the evening, the illuminated Luhuitou makes for a great backdrop for photos along Sanya Bay. Luhuitou Park is designed as a theme park that equally emphasizes love culture and ecological showcasing.

Love Culture

The main attraction, the “Luhuitou” sculpture, was built based on a beautiful Li ethnic love legend. Standing 15 meters tall, it is the tallest sculpture on Hainan Island and has become an iconic city sculpture of Sanya, earning the city the nickname “Deer City.” Luhuitou is a must-visit destination in Sanya, inspiring endless sweet fantasies about love.

Other love culture attractions include the cliff carving of the Chinese character for “Love,” the “Eternal Union” platform, “Lovers’ Locks,” the “Couple Trees,” the “Fairy Deer Tree,” the “Sea Will Never Wither Stone,” the “Matchmaker” statue, and the “Eternal Love” stone carving. During the annual Sanya Tianya Haijiao International Wedding Festival, couples flock here to pledge their eternal love and commit to a lifetime together.

Ecological Display

Luhuitou Park is at the heart of the urban forest vegetation nature reserve in Sanya’s city proper, featuring a lush tropical monsoon rainforest ecosystem rich in plant diversity, including many national and Hainan Province endemic species. Additionally, the park features a Li ethnic folk culture corridor, a “Rose Embrace” area styled like a traditional Li village, a stage for Li ethnic song and dance performances, as well as Li totem stone carvings such as the “Harvest Picture,” showcasing the vibrant customs and traditions of the Li people.

Beautiful Love Legend:

Legend has it that in ancient times, a young Li man chased a beautiful deer along the Five Finger Mountains to the shores of the South China Sea. With cliffs ahead and the endless ocean beyond, the deer had nowhere to go. Just as the youth was about to draw his bow, a flash of light and rising smoke appeared, and the deer suddenly turned its head, transforming into a stunning Li maiden within a halo of multicolored light. Deeply moved, the youth fell in love with her, and the two were married and settled down on the mountain. Hence, the hill became known as “Luhuitou” (Deer Turning Its Head). This is one of China’s three great love legends among ethnic minorities, alongside the “Ashima” story from Yunnan and “Liu Sanjie” from Guangxi.

Transportation:

1. Take a taxi from downtown (5 RMB to the base, 5–8 RMB up the mountain).

2. Take bus No. 2 from the long-distance bus station (routes “Dadonghai to Civil Aviation” or “to Tandu”) and get off at Luhuitou Station (1 RMB), then take a tricycle up to the park entrance (about 2 RMB).
