Guide: The opening ceremony of China's Tourism Year, themed "Leisure and Vacation Travel in China," was held at Yalong Bay Central Square in 1996. The central square is an iconic structure in the Yalong Bay National Tourism Resort, offering various functions such as sightseeing, entertainment, -, and dining. The central square features totem poles reaching skyward and a sculpture group extending toward the earth and sea. Its grand momentum and unique artistic design use a limited artistic space to guide our imagination toward infinite realms. Totem Poles: The towering totem poles are the highest points of the square, standing 26.8 meters tall and consisting of over 200 massive granite blocks and an aluminum alloy column with a diameter of 2.5 meters. They are carved with patterns of dragons, phoenixes, sun birds, fish, and the Four Gods of Wind, Rain, Thunder, and Lightning. Central Sculpture Area: The central sculpture area surrounding the totem poles is formed by three concentric stone rings, exuding grandeur and unique imagery. The first ring features sculptures representing the four seasonal symbols—the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise—along with a sundial depicting the 24 solar terms. The second ring illustrates eight ancient myths: Pangu Creating Heaven and Earth, Nüwa Mending the Sky, Chang’e Flying to the Moon, Wu Gang Chopping the Laurel Tree, Yu the Great Taming the Floods, the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, Houyi Shooting the Suns, and Kuafu Chasing the Sun. The third ring depicts celestial bodies, humans, animals, plants, and all living things, as well as eight ancient Chinese deities. The totem poles and sculpture group form a cohesive whole, conveying a strong sense of ancient Chinese astronomy and Eastern mysticism. Five groups of white sail-like pointed tents and a large colorful fountain designed around the square add a modern touch to the sculptures rich in ancient cultural significance.

Public Transport: Take bus routes 29 or the Tourist Special Line and get off at Yalong Bay Station; take bus routes 27 or Micro 5 and get off at Yalong Bay Central Square Station.

1. Taihe Bus (Xinguo Line) Route: West Station – Municipal Party Committee – Dadonghai – Tian Du – Yalong Bay. Buses run every 30 minutes.

2. New Guoline Double-Decker Sightseeing Bus (open-top on the upper deck, air-conditioned on the lower deck): Route: Yalong Bay – Dadonghai – Sanya Bay – Xidao Pier – Tianya Haijiao. Buses run every half hour. The first bus departs from Yalong Bay at 7:00 AM, and the last bus returns from Tianya Haijiao around 7:00 PM. The journey takes about 70 minutes, traveling at a sightseeing speed. The full fare is 10 RMB (charged by section).

Ticket Information:

Free admission. Admission to the Shell Museum is 56 RMB per adult. Children under 1.3 meters are free, and students with valid student ID receive a half-price discount.
