Sunrise Rock

Sunrise Rock is located on the southeastern cliff of Wuzhizhou Island. Standing on the rock, with the sea breeze in your face, you can overlook the entire island and gaze at the vast South China Sea. Below the cliff, there are rugged rocks. When the sea is calm, you can also take a speedboat to tour the island—the stone scenery is wildly varied. Sunrise Rock resembles a giant natural stone Buddha, or like a massive turtle slowly crawling toward the sea, as if hoping to return to its homeland—hence it is also called "Golden Turtle Probing the Sea." The first ray of dawn rises here every day, and the crimson sun gradually ascends from the sea surface, making it an excellent spot for watching the sunrise over the sea. Whenever the wind picks up, the waves crash against the rocks, with wave crests reaching up to over ten meters. After the waves pass, the sea is covered with a dazzling expanse of white foam, creating a spectacular view reminiscent of “ten thousand heaps of snow rolled up.”

Opening Hours:

The island itself is open all day. Island access hours: 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM; departure from the island: until 5:30 PM. The schedule of the last boat depends on the weather conditions of the day.

Ticket Information:

No separate ticket required. Included in the Wuzhizhou Island admission ticket.

Transportation

On Wuzhizhou Island, you can walk there, but the mountain path leading to Sunrise Rock is quite steep.

Public transport to Wuzhizhou Island:

Bus Route 28: Sanya Bus Terminal (Back Gate) – Wuzhizhou Island Pier. Full fare: 12 RMB. Buses run every 30 minutes, and the journey takes about 50 minutes.

Taxi:

Visitors can take a taxi to Wuzhizhou Pier. One-way fare from downtown Sanya to Wuzhizhou Pier: around 80 RMB; one-way fare from Yalong Bay area to Wuzhizhou Pier: around 50 RMB; round-trip chartered car (Sanya to Wuzhizhou Island): about 150–200 RMB.

Self-drive / Car Rental:

Haikou to Wuzhizhou Island: East Expressway – Haitang Bay Expressway Exit – road sign “Wuzhizhou Island” – about 10 minutes to Wuzhizhou Pier – take a 15-minute luxury cruise to reach the island.

Sanya to Wuzhizhou Island: Tian Du – Yalong Bay Fork – East Expressway (National Highway 223) – (about 10 minutes past the original Qingtian Village intersection) – turn right at the roadside sign “Wuzhizhou Island” – about 10 minutes to Wuzhizhou Pier – take a 15-minute luxury cruise to reach the island.
