Sanya Tianyuan Hot Spring Fish Therapy

Sanya Tianyuan Hot Spring is located 3 kilometers from Fenghuang Town in Sanya City, just 3 kilometers from Sanya Phoenix International Airport. The entire water area features a predominantly Japanese-style decor. All the buildings and landscape designs here follow a simple and natural style — no deliberate imitation, no showy ornamentation, giving visitors a warm, natural, and homely feeling.

Passing through the lobby, you’ll enter the garden. Right across from the lobby is a large open-air hot spring swimming pool, surrounded by a grove of coconut trees. Among the palms are low shrubs and vines, with stone-paved paths winding into the grove. Following the path, you’ll find a clearing among the coconuts where a wooden fenced platform is set up. Wooden bath tubs sit atop the platform, with pipes delivering hot spring water directly into the tubs. Leaning against the fence, you’ll see the straight coconut trees reaching toward the sky. Surrounded by natural vines that form a private barrier, you can catch glimpses of blurred silhouettes of people moving about outside — a true hidden gem. There are over forty such open-air wooden barrel baths, scattered throughout the coconut grove. Surrounding the grove are rows of wooden pavilions, beneath which are more than twenty small hot spring pools, each able to accommodate seven or eight people. These pools are infused with different traditional Chinese medicinal herbs, and the signs detail the specific health benefits of each herbal blend, hence they are called Herbal Pools. The pools are built with polished volcanic rocks, giving them a rustic and natural feel.

Strolling through the garden, you’ll feel the gentle sea breeze and the swaying of coconut palms. Wisps of steam rise from the hot spring outlets, drifting through the air like a scene from a fairyland. In the fields, flocks of egrets fly up and down, searching for food and playing together. Some playful ones even land on the backs of water buffaloes, frolicking with them, while the buffaloes remain unfazed, enjoying the tranquility. Isn’t this idyllic pastoral scenery exactly what you’d expect of China’s Provence?

Tianyuan Bath Culture

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that bathing can help eliminate fatigue, refresh the mind, and promote blood circulation. The water at Tianyuan Hot Spring is a sodium bicarbonate spring, considered one of the finest types of hot springs. It is rich in the rare element radon, as well as beneficial minerals and trace elements such as phosphorus, calcium, iron, copper, zinc, magnesium, and sodium, all of which are good for health. It has remarkable effects on rheumatoid arthritis, skin diseases, neurasthenia, colds, as well as skin beautification and smoothing. Radon, a radioactive element, is especially effective in treating skin diseases and tumors.

Perhaps you’ve soaked in hot springs in many places, but most indoor pools feel similar to public baths, making it hard to find any romantic ambiance. Thanks to Hainan’s unique natural environment and climate, all the hot spring pools at Tianyuan are either open-air or semi-open-air. Here, you not only experience something truly unique but also immerse yourself in Tianyuan’s distinctive cultural charm.
