Duck Male Islet

Duck Male Islet is located on the southeastern side of the vast Senping Shoal reef platform. A small island formed by a large patch reef is known as Duck Male Islet. The island is mostly composed of reef blocks and is covered with a few herbaceous plants. It developed on a patch reef, and deep water surrounds the entire island. This type of reef structure grows in isolation within the lagoon and is most likely to form along the "gate" passages, because the currents are strong and the waves are high near the "gates," bringing an abundance of plankton from the open sea or the lagoon, which promotes the growth and merging of reef heads and leads to the formation of small islands.
