Sanya University

Established in 2005 and located in Sanya, Hainan Province, Sanya University was invested in by Geely Group, a global enterprise. It is the earliest and largest private undergraduate institution in Sanya, filling the gap in higher education in central and southern Hainan. The university has achieved rapid development and outstanding progress, standing out among private universities nationwide and carving out a unique path. It has become China’s fastest-growing and most competitive comprehensive private university.

The campus covers an area of 3,000 acres, with a total built-up area of 517,700 square meters and a total investment of 3 billion yuan. It comprises 16 academic colleges and offers 65 undergraduate majors (including specializations) across nine disciplines: law, literature, economics, management, engineering, science, agriculture, education, and art. The university is equipped with modern teaching and living facilities such as an academic exchange center, arts center, laboratory center, computer center, standard swimming pool, golf training ground, and modern sports field. It also houses two high-tech libraries with a collection of over two million books. By 2010, the university had reached an undergraduate enrollment scale of 20,000 students.

The university remains committed to its founding mission of “empowering students to better engage with society,” adhering to the principles of “student-centeredness, celebrating excellence, and finding joy in educational passion.” Rooted in the local community while looking globally, it strives for excellence and serves society, earning recognition as a new window of higher education in Hainan. In 2012, it successfully transitioned into an independent private university, ranking third among national independent colleges in the Ministry of Education's evaluation. In 2014, it passed the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching assessment with flying colors. In 2015, it was named one of the top 50 universities in China for graduate employment, as the only institution from Hainan selected by the Ministry of Education. In 2016, the Hainan Provincial People’s Government and the Sanya Municipal People’s Government signed an agreement to jointly build Sanya University, making concerted efforts to develop it into Sanya University.

The university’s vision of international integration, its practice of integrated regional development, its contributions of intellectual support to the local community, and its remarkable achievements in applied talent cultivation have earned it widespread recognition and an excellent reputation. It has garnered significant attention from all sectors of society and prominent media outlets. According to the latest 2017 China University Evaluation Research Report released by China Alumni Association Network, Sanya University has risen to second place in the 2017 ranking of comprehensive private universities in China and has been awarded five-star status as a first-class private university in China. It has remained among the top five comprehensive private universities in China for five consecutive years. Additionally, it has been honored by four major influential Chinese media organizations—Tencent, NetEase, Xinhua, and Sina—as a “Brand-Strength Private University,” “2016 Most Competitive University for Employment,” “Brand-Influence Private University,” and “2016 China’s Most Competitive University for Employment.”
