The Binlang River Cultural Tourism Scenic Area is located one kilometer north of Fenghuang Road in Sanya, bordered by the West Line Railway to the south and the Shuiyuanchi Reservoir to the north. Situated downstream of the Shuiyuanchi Reservoir and along both banks of the Binlang River, the Sanya Binlang River International Rural Tourism Area boasts abundant tourism resources. The area is rich in Li ethnic culture, intangible cultural heritage, hot spring tourism, natural water resources for rural tourism, and Binlang (areca nut) culture, all of which provide a wealth of sources for tourism development. The areca nut is one of China's four major southern medicines. Its flowers and fruits contain various nutrients and beneficial substances essential to the human body, such as fats, areca oil, alkaloids, catechins, choline, and other components, offering unique anti-malarial properties.

The scenic area follows a planned layout of "one corridor and seven zones," developing projects such as the Binlang River Waterfront Leisure Corridor, Li Ethnic Culture Experience Zone, International Rural Wellness Resort, Binlang River Hiking Park, Modern Agriculture Sightseeing Zone, Farmhouse Experience Zone, Binlang River Mountain Sports Zone, and Comprehensive Service Center. It aims to scale up night leisure, wellness retreats, multifaceted Li ethnic cultural performances, water-based entertainment, rural farm stays and inns, tropical and sightseeing agriculture, and camping and adventure activities. The area focuses on developing agricultural tourism and Li ethnic folk culture, using the "Night of Binlang River" as a highlight to create an agri-rural tourism destination with unique countryside scenery, distinct ethnic characteristics, and nighttime experiences. This approach leverages tourism to boost the rural economy. The physician Li Shizhen recorded in the "Compendium of Materia Medica" that areca nut flowers can treat ailments such as "reducing edema, unblocking joints, strengthening the spleen and regulating the middle, and treating heart pain and accumulations." The "Chinese Herbal Medicine Records" describe it as an aromatic, stomach-invigorating, and thirst-quenching medicine, while the "Guangdong Herbal Medicine" notes its use in pork soup to treat coughs. In Li ethnic regions, areca nut flowers are especially valued for their effects in clearing heat and reducing fever, promoting blood circulation and strengthening the stomach, killing parasites and resolving stasis, and regulating qi. They are a premium ingredient in local cuisine, used in dishes like Pig Tripe and Spare Ribs Soup with Areca Nut Flowers and Chicken with Areca Nut Flowers—both beloved and nutritious meals among the Li people. The rarity of obesity among the Li ethnic group, and their generally strong and well-proportioned physiques, are believed to be benefited by the regular consumption of areca nut flower soup. The "Dreams of the Li Homeland" farmhouse incorporates areca nut flowers with health-promoting ingredients to cook a nourishing and beautifying “Ten-Ingredient Tonic Soup.”
