Star of End of the Earth

In November 2006, with the approval of the Small Bodies Naming Committee of the International Astronomical Union, the National Astronomical Observatories officially named minor planet No. 9668, discovered by astronomers at the Xinglong Observation Base in Hebei, as the "Star of End of the Earth." To commemorate it, a commemorative sculpture titled "Star of End of the Earth" was erected here in 2008. The sculpture was created by Professor Jiang Zhiqiang from Xiamen University. It incorporates design features of ancient astronomical instruments—the armillary sphere and the equatorial armillary—and integrates astronomical elements. The sculpture consists of three arcs representing the "meridian ring," "declination ring," and "right ascension ring." The crystal star at the center symbolizes the "Star of End of the Earth" voyaging through the vast universe, reflecting its place within the boundless cosmos. The sculpture plaza is designed in the form of the Eight Trigrams from the I Ching, and the semi-arc base of the sculpture highlights the location of Sanya on the map of China, signifying how this beautiful and radiant pearl of the South China Sea shines alongside the dazzling "Star of End of the Earth" in the universe.

Ticket Price

1. Peak Season: Individual visitors 95 RMB, discounted ticket 50 RMB.

2. Off-Season: Individual visitors 80 RMB, discounted ticket 50 RMB (includes a government price adjustment fund of 5 RMB).

Discount Policies

1. Students, seniors aged 60–69, people with disabilities (with valid ID), and children between 1.2 m and 1.4 m tall can purchase tickets for 50 RMB during both peak and off-seasons.

2. Active-duty military personnel, revolutionary disabled veterans, retired military personnel, and seniors aged 70 and above (inclusive), as well as children under 1.2 m tall, may enter free of charge. Other individuals eligible for free admission follow the regulations of the state and respective provincial or municipal authorities.

Tips

1. Generally, the peak season refers to the period from October 1 to April 30 each year, while the off-season refers to the period from May 1 to September 30 each year.

2. June 1 of each year is designated as the scenic area’s free admission day. Visitors with valid local ID (household registration book or ID card) can enter for free.
