Nepal Pavilion at Nanshan

The Nepal Pavilion from the Shanghai World Expo, relocated to the Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone in Sanya, was founded in June 2012 with a total investment of 180 million yuan. The main structure has now been completed. The decorative tiles and wood carvings throughout the building are all imported from Nepal, and the overall design is identical to the Nepal Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo, with a large stupa as the centerpiece. Covering an area of 3,600 square meters, the pavilion’s theme is “The Legend of Kathmandu: Searching for the Soul of the City, Exploring and Reflecting,” which aligns with the cultural themes of the Nanshan scenic area.

The Nepal Pavilion is divided into a front hall, middle hall, and rear hall. During the National Day holiday in 2014, the front hall will open first, showcasing Nepalese cashmere products, marionettes, lanterns made of handmade paper, and handicrafts crafted from hand-carved wood. The large white hall on the third floor is a 360-degree panoramic cinema that introduces the life of Siddhartha Gautama—his birth, enlightenment, and nirvana—in a six-minute short film, allowing visitors to the Nanshan site to gain a condensed understanding of Buddhist culture and history in a short time. The middle hall will enshrine a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha brought from Nepal and is expected to officially open to the public during the 2015 Spring Festival.
