Sanya Bridge

Located at the estuary of the inner harbor of the Sanya River in downtown Sanya, it was originally built during the Japanese occupation of Hainan. After multiple renovations, it was officially opened to traffic in December 1967 as the first major arterial highway bridge in Sanya following a dedicated reconstruction fund, and is classified as a permanent bridge. The bridge has a total of 13 spans, each with a span length of 16.8 meters. It uses 30 cast-in-place piles, I-beam girders, with seven beams per span. The bridge is 306 meters long, with a clear width of 7 meters and 1-meter-wide sidewalks on each side. Sanya Bridge pioneered the use of a construction technique combining cast-in-place piles and precast hoisted long-span girders for the bridge deck in Hainan. Standing on the bridge, visitors can enjoy views of the Sanya River inner harbor and get an up-close glimpse of the lives of local fishermen. The railings of the bridge feature carvings of deer under palm trees—an innovative design that reflects the city’s identity as the “City of Deer.” When visiting Hainan and Sanya, take a moment to walk across Sanya Bridge and admire the beauty of the Sanya River.
