The Century Bridge is not only a key construction project of Hainan Province but also an iconic landmark of Haikou City. The bridge commenced construction on May 29, 1998, and was completed and opened to traffic on August 1, 2003.

A bridge spans the sea, connecting the vast lands to the north and south. Towering proudly towards the sky with a majestic aura, the Century Bridge resembles a silver dragon. Together with famous nearby attractions such as Wanlv Park, Haidian River, Binhai Park, Century Square, and Meilisha Peninsula, all embraced along Binhai Avenue, it adds vibrant charm to the developing “Haikou Bund.”

Changing year by year, transforming dramatically over a decade. The Century Bridge, which took over five years to build, stands majestic and grand—the bridge name inscribed by [name redacted] shines brilliantly. As Wang Fuyu, then Deputy Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Haikou Municipal Committee, said at the bridge’s opening ceremony, Haikou—constantly evolving—is steering firmly, accelerating full throttle, transcending time and space, and advancing towards its goal of becoming an international metropolis along this modern thoroughfare.
