Hiking is an excellent way to explore Malaysia’s unique natural landscapes. From the dense tropical rainforests of the lowlands to the jungles on high mountains, Malaysia is home to a wide variety of flora.
Beginners can start with simple trails and less challenging terrains at these popular and well-known spots, such as Gunung Jerai in Kedah, Gunung Ledang in Negeri Sembilan, or Gunung Ledang in Johor. These hikes take only a few hours to a day to complete and are easily accessible without necessarily requiring a guide.
The Berinchang and Broga Hills in the Cameron Highlands of Pahang offer refreshing hiking experiences, featuring cool air and beautiful views of tea plantations and vegetable farms.
For more challenging hikes, you can attempt Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak on the Malay Peninsula. The round trip to Mount Kinabalu covers 130 kilometers and takes about nine days, traversing through rainforests, rivers, and ridges. Not to be missed is Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, the highest mountain in Southeast Asia, standing at 4,093 meters above sea level.
