Su Xunsan Township People's Revolutionary Memorial Pavilion
The Su Xunsan Township People's Revolutionary Memorial Pavilion is a classic red tourism destination.
The Su Xunsan Township People's Revolutionary Memorial Pavilion is a patriotic and revolutionary tradition education base in Haikou City. It is located southeast of the site of the Su Xunsan Village Committee in Sanjiang Town, Haikou. The managing authority is the Civil Affairs Bureau of Meilan District, Haikou.
The Su Xunsan Township People's Revolutionary Memorial Pavilion was built in 1991 with donations of over 500,000 yuan from social contributors. The pavilion features a reinforced concrete structure, surrounded by square walls, with all buildings topped with glazed tiles. The main gate stands 4.6 meters high and 4.8 meters wide, with an inscription on the lintel reading “Su Xunsan Township People's Revolutionary Memorial Pavilion,” written by Xu Shijie, former Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. The gateposts bear a couplet that reads: “The heroic spirit of revolutionary martyrs lives on; the contributions of the people of the old revolutionary base endure through the ages.” Upon entering the gate, there is a 3.2-meter-high, 5-meter-long and wide four-cornered Martyrs’ Pavilion. To the left and right of the Martyrs’ Pavilion are two smaller pavilions, each 3 meters high with bases measuring 3.5 meters in length and width. Behind the pavilion stands a 3-meter-high, 0.8-meter-wide white marble bust of Li Aichun, a pioneer of the Qiongya Revolution. The front of the base is inscribed with “Biography of Martyr Li Aichun.” On the east and west sides of the bust are two 7-meter-long, 3-meter-high wall corridors, engraved with the names of 157 martyrs including Li Aichun, an introduction to the revolutionary history of Su Xunsan Township, and the names of 50 old revolutionary villages in the former Su Xunsan Township. The total area of the memorial pavilion and auxiliary facilities is 8 mu.
Su Xunsan Township is the hometown of Martyr Li Aichun, one of the main areas of the Qiongwen Revolutionary Base, and a renowned anti-Japanese township during the Qiongya Anti-Japanese War. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the people of Su Xunsan Township actively participated in the revolutionary struggle, going through the Great Revolution, the Agrarian Revolutionary War, the Anti-Japanese War, and the Liberation War. Over 400 martyrs sacrificed their lives for the victory of the Qiongya Revolution, making it one of the well-known old revolutionary base areas. In 1952, the Central People’s Government presented Su Xunsan Township with a banner honoring it as a “Revolutionary Model Village.”
