Guanyin Temple

The Guanyin Temple, originally named “Lingfeng Ancient Temple,” is now called Shuiyue Nunnery. It is a tourist attraction and a protected religious and cultural site located in the suburbs of Fangcheng District, Fangchenggang City. It is 147 kilometers from the capital city of Nanning and can be reached directly via the North-South Expressway in just over an hour. The temple is 20 kilometers from Fangchenggang City, 5 kilometers from the Nanfang Expressway, and 2 kilometers from the central urban area of Fangcheng. The temple covers a total area of 30 mu. It is situated on the top of Turtle Mountain on the south bank of the Second Fangcheng River Bridge in Fangcheng Town, making it one of the natural scenic spots in the suburbs. Built during the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1883), the temple was damaged during the Cultural Revolution’s campaign to “Smash the Four Olds.” It was rebuilt through community fundraising in 1989. After renovation and expansion, it was renamed Shuiyue Nunnery. The nunnery includes a mountain gate, a stele pavilion, donation boxes, bells and drums, the Maitreya Hall, the Mahavira Hall, the Amitayus Hall, the Bodhisattva Hall, and the Dragon King Hall. The left side houses the precept platform, while the right side has monks' quarters. Behind the temple lies a tranquil garden. This scenic and religious site is richly vegetated, filled with birdsong and floral fragrance. Nestled by the river and half-hidden within the forest, the temple attracts a continuous flow of visitors on the first and fifteenth days of each lunar month. With an average annual visitor count of over 30,000, it is a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
