Monster Rock Beach

Situated in front of Dengjaling on Jiangshan Peninsula in Fangchenggang City, Guangxi Province, Monster Rock Beach is an integral part of the Jiangshan Peninsula Scenic Area. It is a marine erosional landform created by the constant battering of waves against the rocks, giving the stones their distinctive reddish-brown hue, hence also known as the “Red Cliffs Over the Sea.”

The uniquely shaped rocks carved from stone are strikingly vivid—some look like monsters, others like plants, battle formations, or even mazes… Among the most realistic are “Penholder Mountain,” “Golden Turtle Gazing at the Sea,” “Kangaroo Watching the Sea,” “Crocodile Diving,” “Lion Guarding the Coast,” and “Mushroom Rock,” all remarkably lifelike and captivating. At high tide, you can witness the spectacular scene of “jagged rocks piercing the sky, waves crashing against the shore, churning up thousands of piles of snow.”

Standing atop Dengjaling, you can watch the sunrise in the morning, witnessing the magnificent moment when the red sun bursts forth from the sea in the east; in the evening, enjoy the sunset as the blue sea reflects the crimson clouds, merging sea and sky into one, with the water surface shimmering like scattered silver and broken gold, sparkling and dancing—a breathtaking evening scene. As the poem goes: “Over Red Cliffs Over the Sea, listen to the roaring waves; the grotesque rocks are picturesque, the waves sharp as blades. One might think Zhuge Liang has entered a mystic formation, and even Su Dongpo would praise this wonder through the ages.”
