Nanshan Longevity Scenic Area

Nanshan Longevity Scenic Area is the site of the Guangxi Fangcheng Camellia nitidissima National Nature Reserve. It is also the water source forest protection zone and water conservation forest of Fangchenggang City, as well as the type locality for the northern tropical monsoon rainforest and mountain evergreen broad-leaved forest. The scenic area includes attractions such as Nanshan Mountain, Chonghuanggou Valley, Dongshan River Drifting, Xiaofeng Reservoir, Pingshuiding Reservoir, and the Camellia nitidissima Protected Area.

Nanshan is located at the southern foot of the Shiwandashan Mountain Range, nestled among towns such as Nashuo, Dalu, and Fulong. It covers a total area of about 130,000 mu, of which 38,000 mu belong to Nashuo Town—all of which are part of the Camellia nitidissima Protected Area. The protected area features continuous, towering mountains, with the main peak, Nanshan Mountain, standing at an elevation of 917 meters. To its north lies Xiaofeng Reservoir, which has one main dam and three auxiliary dams, a storage capacity of 103.2 million cubic meters, a catchment area of 54.5 square kilometers, and a maximum water level of 170.34 meters. To the south is the widely known Chonghuanggou attraction, located 6 kilometers from the town center of Nashuo (excluding the uphill trek). The area boasts lush mountains, clear waters, abundant forests, unique rock formations, and cascading waterfalls, making it a favorite spot for visitors.

Nashuo Town: Known as the “Hometown of Camellia nitidissima, the Queen of Tea,” and the hometown of the Ten Sisters, a national advanced group in learning from Lei Feng, Nashuo Town is located in the heart of the Shiwandashan Mountain Range, in the southwest of Fangcheng District, about 30 kilometers from the urban area. It borders Huashi Town to the east, Jiangping Town to the south, Naliang Town and Malu Town to the west, and is separated by a mountain from Dalu Town and Naiqin Township to the north. National Highway 2021 runs through the town, making it a key trade hub for mountain and seafood products, as well as a strategic passage for southwestern China to border areas.
