Yaihuai Cave Site

The Yaihuai Cave Site is a cultural relic protection unit of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The Long’an Yaihuai Cave Site is located in Bolangtun, Bolang Village, Qiaojian Town, Long’an County, Guangxi, and is a representative site of Neolithic Dashi Shovel cultural remains.

In 2018, after three consecutive years of excavation at the Long’an Yaihuai Cave Site, archaeologists have made a series of significant discoveries. In addition to unearthing over 10,000 cultural relics, they also discovered a burial site dating back approximately 16,000 years along with human fossils, including a complete skull.

Approximately 1 kilometer northeast of the site lies the Dalongtan Site, another representative site of Neolithic Dashi Shovel cultural remains. One kilometer southeast is the Youjiang River, with nearby natural ponds and flat, open land in front, offering an excellent natural environment.

This site is a cave from the Stone Age. Discovered in 2014, it covers a total area of about 110 square meters and consists of an anterior cave hall and an inner cave. The cave hall is a tall rock shelter, approximately 10 meters in both length and width, with the entrance facing west and situated 23 meters above the mountain foot; the inner cave is about 8 meters long and 3 meters wide.

To support the research project on the Naculture (rice cultivation culture) of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Guangxi Cultural Relics Protection and Archaeology Research Institute conducted three consecutive years of archaeological excavations at the site from May 2015 to September 2017, while also clearing the disturbed deposits left by later human activity. They discovered Paleolithic burials and human bones, unearthed over 10,000 cultural relics, and achieved significant findings.

In 2019, the Yaihuai Cave Site was included in the eighth batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level.
