Nanhu Park in Nanning

Nanhu Park is located in the central area of Nanning. Established in 1973, it was opened to the public free of charge in 2002. Covering an area of 200.09 hectares, it includes 93.09 hectares of land and 107 hectares of water surface (a comprehensive dredging project was carried out on Nanhu Lake between 2002 and 2003 to remove silt).

Major attractions include: the Famous Trees Expo Garden, Lakeside Square, the Memorial Hall for Revolutionary Martyrs of the Baise Uprising such as Wei Baqun and Li Mingrui, the water curtain movie and integrated waterscape, the Nine-Arch Bridge, and more. The park receives over 10 million visitors annually and has hosted central leaders including Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao.

The Famous Trees Expo Garden is situated in the scenic southeastern part of Nanhu Park, covering a total area of 38.23 hectares. Construction began in 2002, and it was fully completed and opened to the public in October 2004. It is Nanning’s first emergency shelter, capable of accommodating 140,000 people simultaneously.

The Famous Trees Expo Garden features open woodlands and grasslands, with a focus on planting large and famous tree species. It has over 1,800 large trees, most with a trunk diameter of 40 cm or more, representing 43 species—primarily native and subtropical plants such as banyan, bodhi, kapok, almond, and royal palm, along with a small number of exotic species like bottle tree and Canary Island date palm.

The eastern area centers around the “March 3rd Singing Square,” the integrated water curtain movie waterscape, and the Banyan Shade Square as main activity spaces, expressing the ambiance of “blue skies, clear waters, fragrant grass, and the joyful songs of famous trees in the Green City.” The western section includes a bodhi garden with southern specialty tree species, the poetic and picturesque “Large Tree Bonsai Garden” resembling a three-dimensional landscape painting, the spectacular array-style “Grand Forest,” and the dreamlike misty landscape, creating a recreational environment where “lush canopies shelter from heat and cold, and one can roam freely under the blazing sun.”

Lakeside Square is located northeast of Nanhu Lake in Nanning, forming a strip of urban green space where Binhu Road meets Nanhu Lake. The square covers a total area of 78,900 square meters, including 52,900 square meters of green space. The square's landscape mainly consists of a central musical fountain, golf-themed green areas, garden landscape lighting, supporting pavilions, and small landscape features. In terms of design, it brings the beautiful scenery of Nanhu Lake into the urban area, reflecting the integration of “water” and “city” in harmony. Functionally, to foster citizens’ awareness of natural ecology and meet their needs for leisure and sightseeing, the terrain is designed with natural undulations, allowing visitors to truly experience the beauty of nature. Sponge city renovations were carried out in 2015.

In November 1984, to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the Baise Uprising, the Memorial Hall for Revolutionary Martyrs of the Baise Uprising such as Wei Baqun and Li Mingrui was completed and opened to the public, and it was renovated in 2008. The memorial consists of two main parts: a monument and the exhibition hall. The main exhibition area of the hall is divided into three sections, featuring 237 photographs, 3 historical documents, and 38 cultural relics. Using technologies such as sound, light, and electricity, it systematically introduces the revolutionary martyrs Li Mingrui and Wei Baqun, as well as the glorious history of the Baise Uprising and the Longzhou Uprising.

In April 1977, construction began on the Nine-Arch Bridge of Nanhu, and it was completed by the end of 1978 as a project to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The bridge covers a total construction area of 534.28 square meters. The Nine-Arch Bridge not only facilitates the movement of visitors between the northern and southern banks of the lake but also adds another scenic attraction to the beautiful Nanhu. It has now become one of the iconic structures of Nanning.
