Former Residence of Liang Lieya
The Former Residence of Liang Lieya. Located in Yangmei Village, Jiangxi Town. Liang Lieya was a native of Yangmei Village. Both he and his father devoted themselves to revolutionary activities under Sun Yat-sen to overthrow the feudal rule of the Qing Dynasty. His father, Liang Zhitang, sacrificed his life during the Zhenninguan Uprising led by Sun Yat-sen. In October of the 33rd year of the Guangxu reign (1907), Huang Xing, Wang Heshun, Huang Mingtang, and others gathered at the home of Liang Zhitang in Yangmei Village to plan armed struggles across southern Guangxi aimed at overthrowing Qing rule. In March of the 9th year of the Republic of China (1920), overseas Chinese from Guangxi established the “Guangxi Reform Comrades Association” in Shanghai, with the goal of overthrowing Lu Rongting’s rule in Guangxi. Liang Lieya and 13 others were elected as executives, and they sent people back to Guangxi to incite uprisings among local militias and secret societies. After the liberation, his former residence was preserved. It consists of two courtyards. In December 2001, it was designated as a cultural relics protection unit by the municipal government, making it one of the first three historic residences of notable figures in Nanning to be listed for protection.
Liang Lieya, also known by the aliases Moran, Shan Ying, Tong Tian, and Lao Lie, was originally from Yangmei Village, Yongning (now part of Yangmei Village, Jiangxi Town, Jiangnan District, Nanning City), born in 1892 into a Zhuang ethnic family of small traders.
At the time, the rule of the Qing Dynasty was corrupt, and the nation was mired in deep crisis, with the people living in dire hardship. During the years of Renyin and Jimao (1902 and 1903 AD), Liang Lieya’s father, Liang Zhitang (leader of the Guangxi Assembly Hall), along with the renowned anti-Qing general and leader of the Guangxi secret society, Wang Heshun, raised the banner of anti-Qing resistance. They secretly organized oath societies, held clandestine meetings, and coordinated efforts across various regions... More details on Liang Lieya++
Yangmei Village: Yangmei was established during the Song Dynasty and has a history of over a thousand years. It was initially built by four families surnamed Luo, Liu, Lu, and Li. Because the area was overgrown with thorns and covered in white flowers, it was originally named “Baihua Village.” Later, during the pacification campaigns led by Di Qing, people from different places gradually moved in, and the settlement began to grow and take shape. As it was surrounded by clear streams and flowing waters, it was later renamed “Yangxi Village.” Over time, as society evolved and people became more refined, the name was changed again to “Yangmei Village,” symbolizing beauty. The village is known for its kind-hearted people, appreciation of culture and martial arts, and emphasis on virtue and beauty. By the Ming and Qing dynasties, its culture and economy had flourished significantly, thriving in prosperity.
