The South Korean actor Song Joong-ki, who rose to fame through the 2016 hit drama “Descendants of the Sun,” became a highly recognizable celebrity across Asia. In addition to serving as a tourism ambassador for South Korea, in July 2017 it was reported that he and his co-star from the drama, Song Hye-kyo, were getting married, and in August the movie “The Battleship Island” was released to strong box office success. Maintaining high popularity and public interest, September 19 marked Song Joong-ki’s birthday, prompting his fans to launch a special bus tour campaign to celebrate. Fans traveling to South Korea soon might want to keep an eye out for this bus.

In the past, at Taipei bus stop lightboxes in Taiwan, the Korea Tourism Organization also displayed multiple tourism promotional images of Song Joong-ki, concentrated along the Tunhua North and South roads. A total of 82 lightboxes across 43 stops featured Song Joong-ki, and many fans interested in traveling to Korea noted that having a popular celebrity as a tourism ambassador can indeed boost attention and interest in visiting South Korea.
