Wudie Hall. Located at No. 37 Jiefang Street in Yangmei Ancient Town, it was first built during the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty and has a history of over 200 years. Wudie Hall faces south with a slight eastward orientation. From south to north, there are five houses that extend upward in sequence. Standing at the entrance of the first house and looking inside, each subsequent hall is always higher than the one before, but the view also gradually narrows, until only a corner of the fifth hall can be seen. These five “layered” houses are collectively called Wudie Hall. It is understood that the reason for this architectural design was to symbolize “rising step by step.” Except for the zero-style structure of the fifth section, the other four sections share similar designs—each elegant and bright, with tall roofs and spacious halls. The wood used in each house is high-quality and durable nanmu, which still looks as good as new today. Serving as pillars and beams, the wood is also meticulously crafted, appearing both sturdy and beautiful, truly awe-inspiring. Windows and zero railings are made of intricately designed nanmu strips forming various floral or geometric patterns. Beneath the slightly upturned eaves and around the beams inside, there are also many black-ink paintings on white backgrounds, such as auspicious clouds, green pines with white cranes, and blooming peonies—all symbolizing wealth and prosperity. The descendants of Wudie Hall are 73-year-old Du Naihuan. Wudie Hall was built by his ancestor Du Shaotong, who once held the official rank of Fifth Pin Lanling Fengzheng Dafu (a mid-level imperial official). In the past, a plaque inscribed with “Da Fu Di” (The Mansion of a Distinguished Official) hung above the beam of the first section’s entrance. One of the “Three Treasures of Yangmei,” Yangmei fermented black beans, is beloved for its authentic taste, and before liberation, this delicacy was mainly produced by the women of Wudie Hall. They conducted business with fairness, never cheating on weight or measure, and every day they cooked porridge and stir-fried side dishes to entertain merchants who had traveled from afar. During festivals, they often gave their homemade soy sauce and black beans to neighbors on the street, which became a much-told story in the ancient town.

Yangmei Village: Yangmei was established during the Song Dynasty and has a history of over a thousand years. It was originally built by four families surnamed Luo, Liu, Lu, and Li. Because the area was overgrown with thorns and covered in white flowers, it was named “Baihua Village” (White Flower Village). Later, when Di Qing pacified the region, people from all over came, leading to gradual development and formation of the settlement. Surrounded by clear streams and flowing waters, it was later renamed “Yangxi Village” (Waving Stream Village). As time passed and people became more enlightened and aesthetically inclined, it was renamed again to “Yangmei Village” (Beautiful Yang Village). The people of Yangmei are kind-hearted, value culture and martial arts, and emphasize virtue and beauty. By the Ming and Qing dynasties, its culture and economy had already developed rapidly, flourishing with vitality.
