Former Site of the Battle of Kunlun Pass

The Former Site of the Battle of Kunlun Pass is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism destination.

Kunlun Pass is located at the junction of Xingning District and Binyang County in Nanning City, Guangxi, approximately 4 kilometers north of Kunlun Town and 59 kilometers from Nanning City. It is an extension of the Daming Mountain range, with an elevation of about 300 meters.

On November 15, 1939, the Japanese army landed forcefully near Fangcheng County in Qinzhou Bay with its Fifth Division, Taiwan Mixed Brigade, and a large contingent of infantry, cavalry, and marines.

The Former Site of the Battle of Kunlun Pass includes not only ancient structures such as the old gate tower and the ancient Kunlun Pass road but also commemorative sites within the “Cemetery of Fallen Soldiers of the Fifth Army in the Battle of Kunlun Pass.” These include the south and north memorial archways, the Monument to the Fallen Soldiers of the Fifth Army in the Battle of Kunlun Pass, the Cemetery for Anti-Japanese Soldiers, and the War Memorial Pavilion. Additionally, there are numerous battle-related sites and fortification remnants in the Kunlun Pass area, such as the “Battle of Kunlun Pass Command Post” in Binyang County, the site where Major General Masao Nakamura, commander of the Japanese Twelfth Brigade, was killed in Kunlun Town, Yongning District, as well as strategic positions like Jinlong Mountain, Fairy Mountain, - Ridge, Luotangnan, Tongxing Fort, Shijia Pass, and high grounds 441, 660, and 653.

In January 2017, the Former Site of the Battle of Kunlun Pass Scenic Area was included in the “National Directory of Classic Red Tourism Destinations.”

Kunlun Village: Located in the northeast of Kunlun Town, Kunlun Village borders Binyang County and is 57 kilometers from Nanning City and 2 kilometers from the town government. It is traversed by the Nanning-Liuzhou and Nanning-Wuzhou secondary highways, offering convenient transportation. The village covers an area of 12 square kilometers, comprising 14 natural hamlets, 23 villager groups, 523 households, and a population of 2,220. The arable land area is 2,059 mu, including 1,780 mu of paddy fields (0.85 mu per capita) and 310 mu of dry land.
