Lu Yanshan (1881–1947), courtesy name Yaohui, was a native of Huangcha Village, Liming Township. Coming from a poor family in his early years, he later attended the Guangxi Army Officers' Academy. He served successively as company commander, battalion commander, regimental commander, and brigade commander under Lu Rongting’s forces, holding the rank of lieutenant general. In the 8th year of the Republic of China (1919), the Portuguese authorities in Macau built an embankment beyond the border, infringing upon Chinese territory. Lu Yanshan was appointed to represent China in negotiations with the Portuguese side. Initially, the Governor of Macau attempted to bribe him with a large sum of money, but after being rebuked by Lu, he resorted to sophistry and threats of force.
