Martyrs' Cemetery of Dai Zhimin

The Martyrs' Cemetery of Dai Zhimin is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism site.

The Martyrs' Cemetery of Dai Zhimin is located on the banks of the Heishui River, east of Gongyi Village in Leiping Town. It was built in January 1979 and renovated in May of the same year.

Both the cemetery and the tombstone are made of cement, surrounded by a reinforced concrete floral railing. On Tomb-Sweeping Day and Youth Day (May 4th) every year, local officials and residents, youths, and school teachers and students come here to sweep the martyrs’ graves and carry out various commemorative activities to honor the revolutionary martyrs.

Dai Zhimin (1959–1979), from Taoyuan County, Hunan Province, graduated from Longtan Middle School in Taoyuan County in 1976. He joined the Communist Youth League of China in 1973 and served as the class Youth League branch secretary for five consecutive terms. In January 1977, he enlisted in the People's Liberation Army of China, assigned to the artillery company of the Third Battalion of a certain unit in the Guangzhou Military Region, where he served as squad leader of Squad Seven. In December 1978, he joined the Communist Party of China as a probationary member. On January 4, 1979, at the section of the Heishui River bordering Gongyi Brigade and Zu’an Brigade of Taiping Commune in his native county, he heroically sacrificed his life while rescuing a drowning Zhuang ethnic child and a fellow soldier...
