Tainan Shopping Festival: Daxinying Carnival Kicks Off December 2

In recent years, the Tainan Shopping Festival’s Daxinying Carnival has become a major event for residents around Daxinying and has also attracted participants from other counties and cities. This year’s event kicks off on December 2 and runs for two days, featuring 108 booths. Continuing last year’s cosplay carnival, the Xinying District Office estimates that it will draw 40,000 visitors and generate nearly NT$20 million in business opportunities.

Zhang Ruimin, Magistrate of Xinying District, said that the Daxinying Carnival, part of the Tainan Shopping Festival series, has gradually gained recognition in recent years. This year, 108 shops from across Tainan have been invited to set up booths along the Minquan Road section in Xinying District. The event is organized around five major themes, including food stalls, the cosplay carnival, the Daxinying Mini Travel experience, a Little Bakers DIY cake workshop, and a local business district stamp-collecting activity.

Zhang Ruimin further explained that last year’s first cosplay event successfully attracted a crowd, and this year the exhibition space is again planned to allow cosplayers to interact more naturally with the public in character. The cosplay carnival has already registered 24 participating groups, and unregistered players are also welcome to join in for mutual exchange and to promote cosplay culture.

This year, the Daxinying Carnival has partnered with Chimei Café to host two Little Bakers DIY cake workshops, where children aged 3 to 12 can make a 4-inch rectangular cake with their families to enhance parent-child interaction. From now until December 3, customers who spend any amount at event-participating stores will receive one store stamp. Collecting two different stamps qualifies participants for a lucky draw, with the grand prize being a 50-inch LED TV.

In addition, this year, 74 vendors have offered over 80 items for a one-dollar charity auction, with estimated proceeds of around NT$120,000. All auction earnings will be donated to social welfare organizations. Zhang Ruimin said that the two-day event promises exciting programs and aims to boost local economic and tourism development, raising the profile of the Daxinying area. The public is warmly invited to participate.
