Longtan Waterfall

Longtan Waterfall is located in Shilongchong, about four kilometers north of Mengshan County, and has long been one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Mengshan. It was documented as early as the Qing Dynasty in the "Yongan Prefecture Annals." Stretching over ten kilometers in depth, Shilongchong lies deep within the mountains, and the waterfall is situated roughly in the middle, spanning about half an acre. To reach the waterfall and admire its beauty, visitors must navigate through nine winding turns and thirteen bends.

The mountain trails within the valley are rugged, with oddly shaped rocks scattered everywhere. The stream babbles softly, while birds chirp and fragrant flowers bloom along the way.

After making nine turns through the mountain, a cool breeze greets you, followed by the sound of a thunderous roar—like rumbling thunder, the toll of a great bell, or the beat of a war drum. As you push through the dense forest, the valley suddenly opens up to reveal a silver flash: a white ribbon cascading from the sky. It falls like fine rain, then transforms into billowing white mist that rises above the sheer cliffs. Sunlight refracts through the mist, creating a rainbow that appears and disappears, casting a spectrum of colors on the surrounding rock faces and giving the area an almost magical feel. Sitting on the precarious rocks by the pool and taking in the view is a truly delightful experience.

The "Yongan Prefecture Annals" features a poem praising this scene: “The cascading waterfall murmurs like jade pouring down; a silvery ribbon hangs bright against the sky. When shall I build my hut by Longtan’s side, so I may gaze upon such views without traveling far to Mount Lu?”
