Former Residence of Wei Zhuping

The Former Residence of Wei Zhuping is located in Daoyi Village, Wenxu Town. It was the home of Wei Zhuping, a renowned local martial arts master in Mengshan, and is the only well-preserved residential building from the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty within the county today. The residence has an integrated structure, consisting of a front and a rear building, each with one main hall and two rooms. The front and rear buildings are connected by horizontal corridors on the left and right, forming a traditional courtyard house. The total livable area is about 1,000 square meters. The walls are made of blue bricks, and the roof is covered with tiles and wood, making the structure extremely sturdy. Despite being over a hundred years old, it remains in remarkably good condition. Under the eaves of the front hall, there are five wooden carvings of flowers and birds, all uniquely styled; there are also seven clay sculptures of animal patterns, depicting more than 20 animals including birds, lions, deer, and rhinoceroses—vividly realistic and lifelike. In addition, the hall is adorned with various calligraphy works and landscape paintings. On the walls on either side of the main beam under the rear hall’s central ceiling, there are landscape-and-bird murals each covering three square meters. The courtyard corridor features handcrafted lattice doors and exquisitely carved chrysanthemum-patterned doors. This site has now been designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit.
